Trotters ’ Heats To Doctor Kyle And Mighty Chief

A brilliant winning run by Mighty Chief and a surprise win by Doctor Kyle marked the final set of heats of the New Zealand Trotting Championship, decided at Addington Raceway on Saturday. As a result Migbtv Chief is now one of the early favourites for the £-000 final on April 23.

Mighty Chief’s time of 3min .28 3-ssec for the 13 furlongs [was the fastest recorded in any of the four heats. Poupette. which finished second to him recorded one-fifth of a second slower. Mighty Chief's win was his first since the Dominion Handicap in November. It was a magnificent effort as he had to work hard early to join Free Globe in the lead before the end of half a mile. He tried to work clear, but Free Globe sprinted har'l and L.' R. Clark had to ease Mighty Chief.

The field bunched near the six furlongs and Mighty Chief was brought off the rails. He was close to Free Globe at the half-mile, was kept up to his work and took control with two furlongs and a half left. He opened a lead of three lengths over Free Globe racing to the straight and drew away to win by six lengths. Poupette fought on gamely for her placing, finishing a length in front of another determined finisher in Queen's Cord. Marshella. one of the tailenders until the three furlongs, did well to finish fourth ahead of Fourina and Tronso, with a gap to Seven Nights.

CLOSE EIGHTH Doctor Kyle was well back early in his heat, in which Snow Globe forced all of the pace. He was a close eighth at the straight entrance where Gala Song quickly mastered Snow Globe. Doctor Kyle finished better than Gala Song and beat her by a length go-

; ing away. Gala Son held second by a length from When, which trotted a most encouraging race. Her stablemate. Asia Minor, had to miss a i start on Saturday because of la knee injury. Flaming Way made up a little ground for fourth andj [so ensured himself of a start
