BIGGER ENTRY FOR EASTER TENNIS
More than twice as many senior tennis players have entered the Canterbury Easter tournament this year as did last, and it will be possible to run a senior women’s singles competition.
Nine senior women’s entries and 28 senior men’s have been received, as well as entries from 70 junior boys and 60 junior girls.
J. Mitchell and R. McCutcheon (Canterbury) have been seeded first and second, respectively, in the men’s singles.
Six players from outside Canterbury have entered the men’s section. D. Hawkes i (Wellington) has been seeded third, and the others are 1. Craig (Wellington), R. Hoffman (Greymouth), and B Knight, L. Rogers and G. McEachran (Southland). ! Only one of the nine senior women is from outside Canterbury, Miss S. Collins (Southland), who was a member of the New Zealand Linton Cup team in Australia earlier this year. Two leading Canterburyplayers have entered. Misses S. Field and J. Bishop. As Miss Bishop is New Zealand under-17 girls’ champion, her game against Miss Collins will be watched with interest. Miss S. Sanson, a promising Southland junior, has also entered the tournament.
