Four To Meet Rugby Club

A four-man deputation from the Canterbury Rugby Union will meet members of the Teachers’ College club.

They will discuss I problems associated with the refusal of the : union to grant senior status to the college . from the beginning of the season.

The decision was made after the union’s management committee had received a letter last evening from Teachers’ College which said that the committee might be unaware of the problems that faced the club

The letter said: “The club thanks the union for its care-! ful consideration of its ap-1 plication for senior status. I “We regret the tenor of some statements made during discussion of our case as reported, but recognise that members of the union must be largely unaware of the i peculiar difficulties under I which the club labours in I keeping in its ranks in any ' year the considerable number [of senior players passing 'through the college. i "Running Of Club”

“The fault in lack of communication with members of the union lies with us. Should members of the union, at any time, wish to know more about the running of our club we shall be happy to have our representatives meet them in discussion." (Mr B. J. Drake said that perhaps the committee should meet officials of the club). “This is over and above the matter of promotion. We look to Teachers' College players to help with the promotion of Rugby in future years. It would do no harm to meet members of this club.” Mr R. W. Thomas said that perhaps his choice of words at the previous meeting may have been incorrect. He asked to be placed on any denutation that would meet Teachers’ College. A suggestion by Mr C. H. McPhail that Teachers’ College should send a deputation to wait on the management committee was not approved It was considered that the discussions would be freer ■ away from the committee meeting.

The C.R.U. deputation will be Messrs A. K. Johnson, J. Storey’, McPhail and Thomas.
