S.I. Golf Is Down Again

The percentage of golfers in the South Island decreased for the second year in succession in 1965. according to the annual report of the New Zealand Golf Association. Last year 31 per cent of New Zealand golfers were members of South Island clubs, compared with 31.5 per cent in 1964 and 32.4 per cent in 1963. This decrease is possibly due to most South Island clubs reaching a saturation point and not being able to accept more members.

Since 1963. membership of New Zealand clubs has risen from 29.794 to 36.101 in 1965 In that time South Island clubs’ memberships have grown from 9657 to 11.181. Registered clubs total 320 throughout the country and 10 of the 16 district associations are in the North Island.
