Moulds Shoe Soles

A new shoe sole injection moulding plant, the first in. the Southern Hemisphere, | was demonstrated at the factory of Norvic Footwear, Ltd.,l to members of the footwear; retail trade on Monday night. I The plant, which cost about. £35.000. is owned by Injec-] tion Mouldings, and will be' used by Norvic Footwear.] Ltd.. Suckling Brothers, Ltd., Regent Footwear, Ltd., the South Canterbury Shoe Com-] pany. Ltd. (Timani). The plant, from the United] Kingdom, is the twenty-fourth I made there, and only four are being used outside the United ] Kingdom. The other three] are in Russia. Poland, and the | United States. The injection moulding j technique, developed in the last seven years, takes the I place of a number of opera- 1 tions in shoe manufacture. | The plant will handle about I 14.800 pairs of shoes a week. ] It injects a vinyl compound' into a mould on the shoe, and will give either a thick or thin sole for any size of shoe, j The vinyl compound is fed| into the machine in the form of grains. Mr T. W. Perry, chairman of the board of directors of Norvic Footwear. Ltd., said that the new process was revolutionary. It gave a far more durable sole than anyi other process on the market. The flexibility of the shoes j would be greater, and they] would not leave marks oni linoleum.
