‘Unattractive Gimmick’
(N.Z Press Association) WELLINGTON. April 4.
The Prime Minister, Mr Holyoake, tonight dismissed as a gimmick the idea of a televised debate with the Leader of the Opposition (Mr Kirk) during the election campaign. Mr Holyoake questioned about his attitude toward a debate similar to the historic KennedyNixon debate in the United States, replied: “It is a gimmick quite widely used by Leaders of the Opposition around the world, not widely accepted by Prime Ministers around the world. I’m not very attracted to gimmicks of any kind.”
