‘ALL THE BEEF’

(N.Z. Press Association) HAMILTON, March 24.

The North American market will take “all the beef New Zealand can give it,” but before lamb will be taken in greater quantities it will have to be more lean.

This is the opinion of the American agricultural attache to the American Embassy in Wellington, Mr Gordon Loveless. Mr Loveless has been visiting various agricultural centres in Waikato. “We will take all the beef New Zealand can scrape up right now—subject to the beef quota,” he said. “At present New Zealand is about 28 per cent below its expected quota for beef.”

The export of New Zealand lamb to America is a “different question altogether,” according to Mr Loveless. “American consumption of lamb, per capita, is dropping off, but I am sure it is possible to cultivate this market.”
