Little Demand In S.A.

The failure of imported racehorses to do well in South Africa in the last few years could affect the selling of New Zealand racing stock to the country, said Mr J. K. Sproule. senior stipendiarysteward of the Jockey Club of South Africa, in Rotorua yesterday.

Mr Sproule is on a twomonth tour of Australia. “New Zealand and Japan to look for new ideas to introduce into South African racing. His main missions are to inspect the Japanese apprentice jockey school in Tokyo and to examine starting ' stalls in Australia and New Zealand with the view to introducing them into South Africa.

Mr Sproule, who is based in Durban. said that since the lifting on the ban of the racing of imported horses in South Africa three years ago. only one imported horse had proved a fairly consistent winner and as a result there was little demand for overseas stock.
