‘HOUSE CHURCHES’ TO BE SET UP
The first three “house churches” woud be set up in different parts of the city by the Trinity Congregational Church soon after Easter, the Minister, the Rev. J. D. Inglis, said yesterday.
The house churches will be groups of church members living in the same area who meet regularly during the week for services in the homes of the members of their group. They will be started in Papanui, Brnydwr, and Linwood. The establishment of these groups would be a return to the simple meetings held in homes at the beginning of the Congregational Church, Mr Inglis said. He knew also that ministers of other denominations in Christchurch had thought of establishing similar groups, but did
not know if any were operating at -present. The house churches were being started partly because of difficulty of church members getting to Sunday services, but mainly because such groups will develop a much closer fellowship than that possible in a city church service, Mr Inglis said. The groups produce “a close fellowship among a small group of friends” who live in an area, and who together can look at the area, work in it and pray for it
