Vietnam
Sir, —The questions asked of the Prime Minister by Mark D. Sadler can be answered in a forthright manner—that is, if we prefer our way of life to a Communist-dominated police state. If we found ourselves in a position where our survival depended on a scorched earth policy, then such a policy would have to be carried out in defence of our freedom and the freedom of those yet unborn. The fact is that North Vietnam has made an armed attack against South Vietnam, and as the United States has promised its support against aggression in South-east Asia it must stand by its word, and fight for the freedom of South Vietnam. As Hanoi refuses point blank to sit round the conference table, they must be prepared to face the consequences. The door is always open: would they keep it open if the position was reversed? —Yours, etc., F.W.P.F. March 1, 1966.
