Mt. Cook National Park
Sir, —Many like myself love the quiet rugged beauty of the Mount Cook Hennitage area. They will also appreciate the great pains taken by the Park Board to preserve the natural alpine beauty of the scene. Buildings have a quiet dignity, and have been planned to fit in with their mountain background. I hope that “The Press” will help the campaign to preserve the natural scene within the park. If there is to be a commercial centre, and multi-storied glass monstrosities, let commercialism build a bustling township, with hooting car horns, fish and chips, and all that, on the borders of the park overlooking Lake Pukaki. The Tourist Hotel Corporation, however, a commercial venture, should pay rates to the Mackenzie County.—Yours, DOUGLAS C. McKECHNIE. Geraldine, February 26, 1966.
