MARINE SCIENCE

Conference At Kaikoura More thin 40 biologists will attend the national conference of the New Zealand Marine Sciences Society at the marine laboratory of the University of Canterbury at Kaikoura, from February 4 to February 7. This will be the first time a university marine laboratory has been host to the conference, which is held annually. Representatives of the four university laboratories at Auckland, Wellington, Kaikoura and Dunedin, the fisheries section of the Marine Department and the Oceanographic Department of the D.S.I.R. will attend the conference. Thirty-two of those attending will sleep in the laboratory during the week-end. On Friday evening there will be an address by the president of the society (Dr. R. M. Cassie of the University of Auckland). Other activities will include symposiums, field excursions, and an evening of underwater slides.
