Why They Left
(Special Crspdt. N.Z.P.A.) LONDON, Jan. 18. Of 35,560 American husbands who ran away from home last year, only 1 per cent did so because of another woman, says a report by the Tracers Company of America, which specialises in finding runaways. The majority were running away from their mothers-in-law and debts. Thousands of young people disappeared around examination time but 95 per cent returned when examinations were over. The survey showed that nearly 2000 divorced parents kidnapped their children in violation of custody rulings. About 150,000 leasebreakers, commercial swindlers and debtors ran away rather than face their obligations.
