Japanese Ship At Lyttelton A four-year*old Japanese cargo-passenger liner now loading wool and general cargo for Japan at Lyttelton is no sluggard. She is the 9547-ton Richmond Maru, which is normally engaged on the JapanNew York trade with two sister ships, the Brooklyn Maru and Manhattan Maru. The Richmond Maru has a cruising speed of 20 knots and averaged 19.75 knots from Nagoya to Napier on a passage of ten and a half days. A flush deck vessel with six cargo hatches, one of which is refrigerated, she has goal-post masts. Accommodation is provided for 12 passengers in six cabins with private facilities. She is a larger member of the Japan Line fleet. Tenwa Maru, Kowa Maru and. Tokuwa Maru, which usually trade with New Zealand, and has been brought in because of the increased cargo offering on the New Zealand-Japan service. The Richmond Maru is commanded by Captain S. Weda and has a Japanese crew of 42. She is expected to suiil for Dunedin today.
