Seabirds On Bow

The 11,419-ton Norwegian phosphate carrier Brissac, now in Auckland, has a 20ft abstract painting of two seabirds on her bow. In five bright colours, the motif is the modern counter-part of the figurehead of the old-time sailing ship. The Brissac is one of the 60 Fred Olsen and Company ships, all of which have a bow decoration.

Languages Italian and Spanish have been approved as subjects for university entrance, entrance scholarships, and the bursaries examination, according to a notice in the “Education Gazette.” The Universities Entrance Board has agreed to the ; introductions of these two 'subjects for university entrance in the examinations of 1967, and for entrance scholarships and the bursaries examination in 1968. There were a few patches of light rain, and moderate westerlies blew throughout the day. At 4.30 p.m. the temperature gauge on the Government Life building registered 68 degrees.

Cadet’s Tour : Two Australian Army Cadet Corps officers and 18 officer i cadets of St. Aloysius College, Sydney, will arrive in Auckland in the Oronsay on January 11 for a 10-day educational tour of the North Island. Organised and financed by the college, the cadets will visit Rotorua and Auckland tourist attractions and the Papakura military camp, where they will study a New Zealand Cadet Corp officercadet and warrant officer course.—(P.A.) Big Fish A 611 b stingray was the biggest fish taken in the North Island surf-fishing competition held in Opotiki over the last four days. The fish was caught by Mr R. G. Wright, of Waimana.
