Canterbury and Auckland gained outright wins when the first series of matches in the women's cricket Hallyburton Johnston Shield tournament ended at Auckland yesterday. Canterbury beat North Shore by an innings and 33 runs while Otago went under to Auckland by an innings and 105 runs. Wellington also had an outright win over the Combined XI but there •re no paints awarded for this match.
Canterbury 214. North Shore « (P Blackler 2/10. C. Williams 22. A. Giles 2/19) and 135 (P. Colegrove 36: Williams 4/18. K. Pyatt 2/3). Auckland 236, Otago 41 (J. Burley 5/21, J. Stevens 5/4) and 92 'Stevens 6/17, C. Early 4/25).
