Talks On Far East Policy

(Hew Zealand Press Association)

WELLINGTON, Dec. 27. The Prime Minister (Mr Holyoake) has agreed to a proposal that talks be held on British policy in the Far East,

Earlier last week Reuter reported from London that the British Prime Minister (Mr Wilson) told the House of Commons talks were planned with Australia and New Zealand about British policy.

He said there was a recognition that Britain’s east of Suez role should be filled on a basis of inter-dependence. Mr Holyoake was now con-

finned that Mr Wilson’s proposals had been made. He said the date and other details had not yet been fixed, although it was likely that talks would take place "fairly early in 1966.” Mr Holyoake said “very considerable” changes had taken place in the South-east Asian area in recent years, and the time was opportune to review the situation.
