Negotiations On Tax Agreement
(New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, December 26. Talks aimed at negotiating a new double tax agreement between New Zealand and Britain are expected to begin in February, the Minister of Finance (Mr Lake) announced today.
He said arrangements had been completed with the British Board of Inland Revenue and the negotiating team from Britain was expected to arrive in Wellington in time to begin discussions on February 7.
“This development will be of particular interest to pensioners, superannuitants and business people whose tax liability was effected by termination of the double tax agreement which previously had been in operation between the two countries,” said Mr Lake. Exchanges at an official level and discussions between the British Chancellor of the Exchequer and Mr Lake (when he was in the United States recently for meetings of the International Monetary Fund and World Bank) have paved the way for the talks.
