SAFETY IN AIR
Reminder To Pilots
(N.Z. Press Association)
WELLINGTON, Dec. 26.
The Inspector of Accidents (Wing Commander O. J. O’Brien) has sent t legrams to all aerial work companies in New Zealand, asking them to remind their employees of the danger of leaving off their crash helmets while flying. “A pilot killed in a recent fatal accident in Hawke’s Bay, involving a top-dressing aircraft, could have almost certainly survived, had he been wearing his crash helmet and his shoulder harness,” Wing Commander O’Brien said.
He said the pilot’s crash helmet had been lying on the seat beside him. There was “a strong suspicion” that his shoulder straps had been unfastened at the time of the crash.
