Conviction Upheld
Mr Justice Macarthur in the Supreme Court on Friday upheld the conviction of lan Stuart Nicolson, aged 24, a shed hand, on a charge in the Magistrate’s Court of stealing £5 from Janson’s Corsetry Salon. Nicolson (Mr W. R. Lascelles) appealed against the conviction on the grout ’. that the prosecution evidence was insufficient to establish beyond reasonable doubt that it was he who had committed the alleged theft. His Honour said that the magistrate was entitled to hold that in its totality the evidence proved Nicolson’s guilt beyond reasonable doubt
