Mr Justice Macarthur in the Supreme Court on Friday upheld the conviction of lan Stuart Nicolson, aged 24, a shed hand, on a charge in the Magistrate’s Court of stealing £5 from Janson’s Corsetry Salon. Nicolson (Mr W. R. Lascelles) appealed against the conviction on the grout ’. that the prosecution evidence was insufficient to establish beyond reasonable doubt that it was he who had committed the alleged theft.
