GRANTS FOR RESEARCH
Professors At Lincoln
The Foundation for International Potash Research. Washington, has announced three research grants in New Zealand, including two to professors at Lincoln College. These are the first research grants made by the American potash industry in New Zealand. | The first grant, of £lOOO, is to Professor B. P. Philpott, professor of agricultural economics and director of the agricultural economics research unit at Lincoln College. The grant to Professor Phil- , pott is to enable the research | unit to carry out research in ■ the field of fertiliser economics Initial Investigations will be carried out in Southland. The second grant, of £250, is to Professor T. W. Walker, professor of soil science at Lincoln College. This is to assist an investigation which 'Will assess the amounts of potash fertiliser needed to give maximum economic response when applied to lucerne grown on different soil types. The third grant, of £lBO, is tc Professor W. Candler, professor of agricultural economics and farm management at Massey University of Manawatu. This is to assist a study | being carried out by Professor Candler and initiated by the Rangitaiki Plains Dairy Company to investigate the reasons for below-average increases in production on some Rangitaiki plains dairy farms
