Duties On Fabrics
(N.Z. Press Association)
WELLINGTON, Dec. 26.
The Tariff and Development Board will hold a meeting on March 1 to re-examine duties on and the exemption from import licensing of certain light-weight woollen fabrics. The meeting comes after an announcement by the Minister of Customs (Mr Shelton) on December 21 that the Government was asking the board to review an interim report on the matter, in the light of strong objections raised by the New Zealand Woollen Mills Association.
Exemption of the fabrics from import licensing and the cutting of duties from British preferential countries altogether. and reduction of duty from general tariff countries to 10 per cent, was recommended in the interim report.
