High Quality Stock In Jersey Cattle Show

This year’s Canterbury Jersey Cattle Show, held on Saturday at the Rangiora Show Grounds, attracted about 116 entries tn the 19 classes. Eight breeders exhibited their cattle in the show, which is organised annually by the North Canterbury Jersey Cattle Club. Entries were down on last year’s figures, when more than 200 entries were received. The very busy preChristmas period probably had an effect on the number of entries. The judge, Mr J. W. Singers of Hamilton, said the standard of cattle exhibited was very high and no better cattle could be found anywhere in New Zealand. Presenting the trophies, he said the champion cow. Pine Leigh Primrose, owned by Mr R. W. Frost, which was recognised throughout the country as a real champion, was a credit to the breed and to the breeder. The futurity stakes event, won by Aidershot Carole, owned by R. J. M. Millar, was a class which was not often held now, although some North Island clubs are endeavouring to reinstate it. Trophies won in the show were: Bridgewater Cup (champion cow), R. W. Frost’s Pine Leigh Primrose; G. H. Dwwick trophy (two-year-old female bred by exhibitor), F. W. Hansen’s Lilac Grove Sonia: Higgins cup (best uddered cow or heifer), R. W. Frost; Summer Lea Cup (futurity stakes), R. J. M. Millar’s Aidershot Carole.
