BRISK SCORING
With five wickets In band, St. Albans needed only 32 runs to catch West-University when nlay began, and made 35 of them before S. C. Guillen was ° U Bartlett. in an admirable piece of bowling, seemed to become faster and faster, and after bowling Guillen knocked back K. I. Ferries’s off stump with St. Albans still five behind. _ . , . Three runs later he bowled A L. Fleete. who had played the fast bowling very well, so St. Albans still needed three to take the lead with two wickets in hand. T. J. Haydon, who has been a very useful batsman for St. Albans, knocked the runs off p. A. Sharp, but Bartlett soon had T. L. Jones and when the innings ended he had bowled 12 overs on end and taken tour f °West-Unlverslty needed quick runs, and although G. T. Dowling and J. R- Veitch were soon out. the scoring was very brisk. p. E. Wallace again looked good while helping B. F. Hastings score *5 for the third wicket. Hastings batted with great confidence and skill and with beautiful strokes made (3 in 115 minutes. B. R. Prestidge gave his best display this season, hammering the bowling hard to collect S 3; he reached his half-century in only 35 minutes. M. S. J. Wright again did a very useful job and Hastings declared in time to leave St. Albans to score 181. Although Bartlett bowled only six overs, no real effort was made to score the runs. J. W. Burtt, full of clean and attractive strokes, made 53 in 71 minutes, but there was probably the feeling that a burst
