Forceful Bowling By Motz
Always aggressive, at time* even violent, the fast bowling of R. C. Mots split the Sydenham second innings asunder at Hagley Park three and gave Riccarton the game by 10 runs. In the morning’s play Motz was at his best, fast, accurate and worrying the batsmen continually with balls that moved *'After* lunch he was again tn tremendous form and when wickets began to fall his bowling was almost awe-inspiring In Its sustained force. He extracted lift and bite from the wicket which had the batsmen scrambling and hurrying One could feel sympathy with the Sydenham batsmen, for their only escape from the violence of Motz was the persistency of J. W. Kiddey. To
say that Kiddey reaped the harvest that Motx had sown does not detract from his performance. His control and accuracy were admirable and the batsmen were never allowed to relax. In bls last seven overs his figures were three wickets for three runs. There were other performances of merit in this exciting game. R. W. Thomas, of Riccarton, gave the Riccarton innings body with hie score of 28, including two sixes and three fours. R. L. Thomas, of Sydenham, also batted well and there was some good bowling from D. L. Gallop and J. M. game really belonged to Motz and Kiddey. The umpires were Messrs J. R. Streeter and R. G. Aitken.
