Prizes Presented At St. Andrew’s College

The rector (Mr I. T. Galloway) told pupils at the St. Andrew’s College prize-giving ceremony yesterday that he wanted to see the academic standards of the school raised.

“Scholarships are not allimportant and one does not gear a college of 500 to the requirements of a limited group of high-ability boys, but the balance between the demands of the academic side and ail the many extracurricular activities, sporting and otherwise, must be carefully maintained,” said Mr Galloway.

“I want to see a genuine conscientious effort to give of his best made by each boy. Most are satisfactory to good—some irrespective of ability have a splendid working spirit, but there are a number who infect others by their laziness,” he said. Mrs W. J. MacGfbbon presented the following prizes:—
