LINCOLN HIGH SCHOOL

“Above all, as you go out into the world, don’t believe the world owes you a living,” said Professor B. P Philpott, at the prize-giving ceremony of Lincoln High School last evening. “The world owes you nothing. It was here first.”

Professor Philpott said the basic purpose of schooling was to develop the intelligence and give qualifications to earn a living. A great increase in the numbers of young people seeking jobs would occur soon through the “post-war baby boom.” Other changes in this country’s prosperity and security were occurring through changing associations with Britain and with Asia and the Pacific.
