‘VISIBLE TREND’
Condition Of Warrant
(N.Z. Press Association)
WELLINGTON, Nov. 25.
Vehicles carrying tyres with the tread worn smooth should not be granted a warrant of fitness, the Automobile Association decided here yesterday. The association voted to ask the Government to include “visible tread” as a condition for the warranty.
Delegates were told Australian regulations for fitness tests required a “clearly visible tread pattern on all parts of the tyre touching the road surface.”
This meant a tyre with a smooth patch across the tread at any point could be refused a warrant of fitness.
