COULD LOSE SERVICE
Polynesian Airways
(N.Z. Press Association)
AUCKLAND, Nov. 25. The Cook Islands could lose their only air service next year because of the “90minute rule,” the Prime Minister (Mr Albert Henry), who arrived in Auckland in the Monterey, said today. The rule, which requires twin-engined aircraft to be within 90 minutes’ flying time from another airport when they were 90 minutes out from their departure point, would affect the islands' DC3 service by Polynesian Airways, when it came into effect next June, he said. This will be discussed next week by Mr Henry, members of his Cabinet, and the New Zealand Government.
They will also discuss the problem with representatives of the Civil Aviation Department and Air New Zealand.
