Obituary
MR J. R. HERD, S.M. (N.Z. Press Association) WHANGAREI, Nov. 26. A former Chief Justice of Western Samoa and a magistrate at Whangarei, Mr J. R. Herd, died suddenly this week. Mr Herd, who was 66. had earlier presided at a Court sitting in Whangarei. He had been a magistrate since 1947 and before that was the Chief Justice of Western Samoa.
He served initially on the Bench at Palmerston North and had been in the Whangarei circuit since 1951.
Mr Herd took up gliding at the age of 60. He is survived by his wife and two sons.
