WARFARE EXERCISE
Army Trainees To Go To Coast
National servicemen under the command of Major I. Bojesen-Trepka will leave Burnham Camp today to take part in a jungle warfare exercise on the West Coast.
The exercise area, near Aratika and close to the northern shores of Lake Brunner, was chosen because of its rough bush-clad terrain, similar to that encountered in Southeast Asia. The 160 national servicemen taking part will travel by train to Aratika and then march across country to a preselected base. They will be opposed by a guerrilla group of 22 regular force soldiers.
After securing their base area, the trainees will patrol the surrounding country to find a suitable zone for a rations airdrop by the R.N.Z.A.F. on Monday. The chief of staff of he Southern Military District (Lieutenant Colonel R. J. Moor) and the Southern Military District staff training officer (Major E. V. Braggins) will visit the trainees tomorrow and on Monday.
The trainees will return to Burnham next Thursday to prepare for a marching-out demonstration on December 5.
Mr M. F. Moffitt, of Christchurch, has been admitted to the New Zealand Society of Accountants as an associate registered accountant.
