Footpaths
Sir, —The condition of the footpaths in the shopping area of Christchurch is deplorable. Shops making alterations, or rebuilding, damage the footpath, which is then patched up. This work subsides, or the join is not level,
and the consequence is an uneven surface, even cracks. Yesterday, as I walked down Cashel street, I looked up from the pavement to glance at a passer-by. In that second, my heel caught in one of these irregularities or cracks and I had a bad fall, consequently having to be taken home. My black bruises and pulled ligament occasioned this protest. What can—or will—be done about it?—Yours, etc. E.B.T. November 11, 1965. [The City Engineer (Mr P. G. Scoular) said: “If the correspondent will supply the necessary details, the matter will be investigated.”]
