CROP MAY BE RECORD
Hawke’s Bay Fruit (N.Z Press Association) HASTINGS, Nov. 21. Hawke's Bay production of stone and pip fruit this season is expected to show nearly 207 per cent increase over the district’s six-yearly average, says the horticultural division of the Department of Agriculture in Hastings. However, frost and hail damage could reduce this increase particularly in the pip fruits, which appear to suffer more than stone fruit. The division’s annual crop survey shows pip and stone fruit crops this season are expected to yield a total of 2.632.550 bushels, an increase of 101,000 bushels on last year’s crops and 435.530 on the six-year average. Apples and pears this season are estimated to produce more than 2,000,000 bushels, which, said the senior horticultural instructor (Mr W. R. Miller) was probably a record.
