MARAETAI WORK

Resumption Immediate (N.Z. Press Association) HAMILTON, Nov. 4. Work will begin immediately on the penstocks of the .Maraetai II power station, the Ministry of Works resident engineer, Mr N. Moyes, said today. He was commenting on an announcement by the Minister of Electricity (Mr Shand) that work on the station, which stopped in 1961, would be resumed. Mr Moyes said no extra workers would be needed for the penstocks, but he envisaged a gradual build-up of men to full capacity for next year’s work on the power station itself. Mr E. Neiderer, chairman of the Mangakino Businessmen’s Association, said when work was resumed it would give the town the boost it badly needed. A member of the town committee, Mr K. Wilson, said Mangakino would be delighted to have an end to the speculation and uncertainty of the last few years.
