Bold Venture Likely To Complete Stable Double

“The Press” Special Service INVERCARGILL. Bold Venture will be expected to round off a stable double for Wingatui trainer, A. I. Powell, in the Flying Handicap, the second leg of the T.A.B. double at Wyndham today.

Powell has the favourite, Captain’s Command, in the first leg. Both will be ridden by R. J. Skelton.

Bold Venture will be attempting to win his third race on end today, and looks to have a royal chance of doing so. He returned to form at Geraldine last month, when he led all the way and won easily by four lengths. He gave a repeat performance on the same course a fortnight later when he led over the last half-mile. He has the steadier of 9-5. but in a moderate field looks well up to it.

The top-weight. Gladaub, is always a possibility, and his front-running tactics have brought about the failure of some capable sprinters. Gladaub beat Town Crier on a heavy track at the Winton meeting. He did not run on on firm ground the first day at Gore but won full of running on the second day—Summer Magic was second—on another heavy track With conditions to suit him, Gladaub is a difficult horse to beat, and in his present form he will be one of the better piospects. The Wanderer has not been a real danger in his two starts this season, and Satinette would need to improve on her Gore efforts. Fox Chat finished a fair fourth at Winton, and an improvement on that run may be expected.

Longwood Light cleared hack class at Gore on Monday after finishing a good second to Idol Prince on the first day. The Kurdistan mare is a smart sprinter and if there is an upset she would be quite capable of causing it. Lovely Day improved each day at Gore, finishing sixth on Monday on a track which did not suit her. She is certain to take up the role of pacemaker, and with 7-0 on her back will run out a merry six. She may not be far off winning form. Widespread interest is being shown in the clash of the New Zealand Derby candidates. Captain’s Command, Summer Magic and Middy, in the first leg, the Spring Handicap. All three will be having their first start over a mile and a quai ter. Another Derby candidate. Bellbridge, won over this distance at Gore on Monday and he will be a dominating favourite for the final Senior Hack Handicap today. The weather has been fine and the track will provide good going with the sting out of it. Selections: Noon.
