Worthy Chat May Win At Rangitikei

WELLINGTON. Worthy Chat and Prince Hagen will be at short odds on the Rangitikei Racing Club’s T.A.B. double today and on Trentham form neither should be beaten. A close second to Creolian in the Watkins Handicap is Worthy Chat’s recommendation. Prince Hagen was twice a good fourth in sprints. There was heavy rain at Bulls on Wednesday night and drizzle early on Thursday, but the weather has been fine since and the track is in perfect order with a good sole of grass. It was under similar conditions that Worthy Chat ran Creolian to three-quarters of a length at Trentham. Today Worthy Chat is handily drawn for a good beginner, and he has enough early speed to hold a prominent place all the way. Vijay went down only narrowlly to Passionate over one mile in intermediate class at Trentham, and Passionate confirmed his form by running Grand Win to a neck two days later.

Acapulco ran fair races over one mile and one mile and three furlongs at Trentham. and will appreciate the drop in class. It is hard, however, to see hint finishing ahead of Worthy Chat. Arakhan, looking well, finished on for ninth after a bad run in the Pearce Handicap. He looked as if he would need little more to top him off. The winner of the two open handicaps at Ellerslie, even though the season before last, Arakhan has proved himself up to the best. ~ . , Foxv Boy, after a disappointing race at Masterton, bypassed Wellington. HARD TO BEAT The hardest for Prince Hagen to beat in the McKelvie Memorial Handicap will be Understudy. A fast-finishing second to Croydon’s Gold at Waverley, Understudy would probably have won had she not lost ground when she struck a soft patch. , t But the Trentham form of Croydon’s Gold was not as good as Prince Hagen’s, and Understudy has drawn No. 18 as comoared with Prince Hagen’s No it. A wide draw has also caused Scramble's stocks to depreciate. He would have to be very good to win from about No. 20. The improver should be Marise.
