Willing To Halt Bombing
(N ZP A .-Reuter—Copyright) JOHNSON CITY, (Texas), October 26. President Johnson reaffirmed today that he would be willing to halt bombing of North Vietnam if he received word that such an action might lead to peace talks, the Associated Press said.
The press secretary. Bill D. Moyers, asked for Mr Johnson’s reaction to a proposal by Senator J. W. Fulbright (Democrat. Arkansas), for a new moratorium on bombing, said: “We actually did call a
halt once for, I believe, a period of five days. He (Johnson) indicated we would be willing to do it again if there were indications from anyone else that to do so would be productive. But we have had no indications that another cessation of the military strikes at military targets in the North would change anyone’s mind anywhere else.” Mr Johnson is at his ranch home near Johnson City for an extended recuperation from the operation to remove his gall bladder.
