Credit For Young People
Sir, —I was very pleased to read of the warning given by a magistrate on giving credit to young people. At the age of 16 my daughter could get credit anywhere in town, no questions asked, until the bills began to come home; then the threat to sue her. This got me down in health and sometimes I did not know which way to turn. 1 talked this matter over with a social worker who advised ie to go and see the credit managers. On doing so I was told there was nothing I could do about it, as there was no law in this country to say young people epuid not have what they required as long as they had the deposit. Didn’t I know that was how business was run today? I said I did not. I lived in fear everytime my daughter went out for I never knew what she would bring home next. My heart goes out to mothers who are having this trouble for I have been through it and never want to again.—Yours, etc., JUST MUM. October 19, 1965.
