DISPUTE AT FACTORY
All Workers Resume
All workers at the Riccarton factory of the Carpet Manufacturing Company (N.Z.), Ltd., resumed work yesterday after a meeting lasting 40 minutes The secretary of the Canterbury branch of the Woollen Workers’ Union (Mr G. S. Ray) said a full and frank discussion between union and management representatives revealed that there had been no victimisation in the dismissal of a worker who last week called for a secret ballot to determine the workers' attitude to the company’s bonus system. It was because of the dismissal that the night shift walked out in protest on Monday and a stop-work meeting was held at the factory yesterday morning. Mr Ray, who came specially from Timaru for talks with the management, said last evening that the man who had been dismissed had not been victimised. After discussions the man had been reinstated. Discussions between the union and management were held on the bonus system in force at the factory and these talks are expected to continue today.
Mr P. McGinn, secretary of the Riccarton branch of the union, said he thought agreement would be reached on the bonus issue in the next few days.
