Kashmir
Sir,—ln reply to V. J. Wilson, I should like to point out that it is India who accepts the cease-fire line in Kashmir and not Pakistan. Is Mr Wilson not aware that it was armed infiltrators from Azad Kashmir (the Pakistani sector) who crossed the ceasefire line and triggered off hostilities? Is Mr Wilson ignorant of the fact that China is occupying illegally 20 miles of Indian territory in Ladakh? These Pakistani infiltrators had the full support of their government. As soon as they crossed the cease-fire line into Indian territory, Mr Shastri had every right to retaliate. The United Nations military observer corroborates India’s charges. The statement saying that India wanted arms not to fight China but to fight Pakistan shows clearly Mr Wilson’s lack of knowledge of India’s foreign policy. India’s eventual crossing of the ceasefire line was forced upon her by Pakistan’s provocation.— Yours, etc., R. G. FRASER. September 13, 1965.
