Minority Groups

Sir, —I hope Mr J. Green was not referring to the United Nations Association as doing the R.S.A. “a lot of harm.” He mentions a U.N.A. meeting at which members of the Workers’ Action Movement proposed and managed to pass some rather controversial motions. Mr Green’s democratic remedy for such a situation is to organise greater support among his friends for the United Nations Association. Unfortunately this country is dominated by those who believe in the utmost political apathy and individual and national self-indulgence until such time as the international situation becomes difficult. Then these exponents of peacetime apathy and selfishness advocate totally destructive and immoral “solutions” for the problems they have neglected and under dire threats against those who see such negative “solutions” as futile. Captain Forsyth should remember that all New Zealanders and not only selfnamed “true blue” ones are citizens with democratic rights.—Yours, etc., MARK D. SADLER. September 14, 1965. Sir,—One can imagine the “something” which would be done about the “minority groups’’ if Forsyth, Green and others of that stamp held oower. I resent being labelled communist or fellow-traveller merely because I take an intelligent interest in matters of great import and reach conclusions different from those of Forsyth, etc. If he and his like are unable to convince others by logical, soundly based, argument and can think only of “doing something” about them, then their dogmatic assertion of the correctness of their views and insistence that no opposition tc those views be allowed verge on the pathological. The Fascist-type outlook of some of those who consider themselves the majority differs little from the totalitarian communist outlook which they profess to detest and which they, quite wrongly, attribute tc their entire opposition. Whether this opposition forms the minority or not I, as an anti-communist and also an anti-fascist, am happy to' belong to it. —Yours, etc., A.I.P.P. September 14, 1965. Sir,—Capt. Forsyth and the local branch of the R.S.A. are concerned at the existence of minority groups and consider it is time something was done about them. If they are really serious in this matter 1 suggest they consult the definitive work on the subject, ‘Mein Kampf,” by A. Hitler. Although written in Germany more than 30 years ago, the techniques outlined by the author, who was no mere theorist, have never been surpassed and should be readily adaptable to local conditions by dedicated men such as R.S.A. members.—Yours, etc., FABIAN. September 14, 1965.

Sir, —So the executive of the Christchurch R.S.A. is concerned about New Zealand's minority groups, yet cannot suggest an answer to the “problem.” 1 would have thought the answer obvious; a Secret Police force, formed from the ranks of the “true blue" members of the R.S.A. After all, this course of action ! tcceeded magnificently in Hitler’s Germany, where all “dangerous dissenters" were quietly removed to prevent the dissemination of their non-conformist political doctrines. The R.S.A. is remarkably prone to making emotional statements of this type. Apparently they are still under the delusion that all those who oppose the Govern-

ment’s policies in Vietnam are “Communists and fellowtravellers” ; emotional outbursts of this nature do not enhance their reputation. It is ironical that they are among the first to deplore the loss of freedom of speech in Communist countries, the very thing they advocate in New Zealand.—Yours, etc., DEREK E. BROWNE. September 14, 1965.
