PRISON RIOT
Fire Brigade Thanked The Christchurch Fire Brigade has been thanked by the Minister of Justice (Mr Hanan) and the superintendent of Paparua Prison (Mr M. C. K. Carew) for its help during the recent riot. “It was only because of their efforts that much greater damage was not incurred,” the Minister wrote of the brigade’s staff. "A wonderful service was provided and the containing of the situation was in no little measure responsible to the efforts of the brigade,” Mr Carew wrote. Both letters were received by the Christchurch Metropolitan Fire Board last evening.
