Good Every Way

(N.Z.P A -Reuter—Copyright)

MANCHESTER, August 6. Art gallery officials were told today that a modern painting which has been raved over during a tour through Britain has been hung upside down all the time. The error was discovered by a bearded artist who went to look at the picture—Ralph Rauschenberg’s painting depicting Canto IX of Dante’s “Inferno”—on

show in Manchester. The picture is on loan from the New York Museum of Modern Art

Told of the error, officials compared the painting with the catalogue. They found that a “heavenly messenger” who should have been emerging from the mist on the left of the picture was in fact coming in from the right —on his head.
