BOOK ON HOCKEY
Mr Walter Author The former New Zealand centre-half and hockey captain, Mr C. V. Walter, has had accepted for publication in London by Nicholas Kaye Ltd. a book which analyses the individual skills and the general theory of team play of hockey. The title of the book is “The Theory and Practice of Hockey,” and the London publishers will be co-operating with the Wellington publishers, A. H. and A. W. Reed, who will be handling distribution for the Australasian market. The book is more than 220 pages in length, and will be illustrated with a considerable number of photographs and diagrams. It is hoped that it will appear in the United Kingdom in January, and in New Zealand in March, 1966. The author is well known for his advocacy of the intensive stickwork and short-pass-ing method of play which used to be so characteristic in Indian hockey, and already his book has been acclaimed as the first serious attempt to analyse these methods in detail by those who have read the manuscript. In addition to his playing record, Mr Walter has been a national coach and a leading umpire and administrator. For some years he has reported major matches and contributed articles upon players and teams in New Zealand newspapers, including “The Press” and periodicals.
