AUSTRALIAN OFFERS
N.Z. Boxers Not Ready (N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, August 5. The trainer-manager, Mr Ron Grimmer, will not rush into any decision over the offers of title fights in Australia for his two boxers, Manuel Santos and Toro George. The offers are for Santos to fight the current Australian light-weight champion, Gilberto Biondi, and for George to fight Johnny Famechon, the Australian featherweight champion. Apart from the fact that Santos is booked to meet the Filipino, Flash Beleno, in Wellington on September 8 and George is due to fight Arthur Clarke (Queensland) in Dunedin on August 23, Mr Grimmer has some doubts whether his boxers are quite ready for international competition.
He is mindful of the fact Santos and George, although highly promising, are relative novices in the professional ranks. Neither has yet gone further than 10-round fights, while Santos has not had to go the full distance in a 10rounder to date.
