Employed At Exchange
The introduction of the post trading system at the Christchurch stock exchange has meant a busy time for Miss Kay Saville and Miss Diana Taylor, of Christchurch. Miss Saville, who is 21, has worked at the stock exchange for almost four years. Miss Taylor, aged 22, has been there three years. Recently Miss Taylor went to the Wellington stock exchange for a week’s training in the new system. Although it is harder she prefers it to the old call system because it is more interesting. The busiest times of the day for the women are between 10 a.m. and 11.15 a.m. and in the afternoon from 2.45 to 3.30. This is when representatives from 17 Christchurch sharebroking firms arrive to buy and sell shares for their clients. Miss Taylor's job is to mark the main quotation board with prices quoted by the buyers and sellers. Miss Saville, in turn, types sales and quotations on precut stencils, from which copies are sent to other exchanges and members. Below: Miss Taylor (seated) and Miss Saville at work.
