MENTAL HEALTH COUNCIL
Merger With Association The Canterbury Mental Health Council has decided to dissolve, its president (Professor H. E. Field) announced last evening. As a number of members of the council were officers or members of the committee of the Canterbury Mental Health Association it was decided that the needs of the community could best be served by a single mental health organisation, he said. To this end an agreement had been made with the association that the assets of the council, subject to certain conditions, would be transferred, and that the association would assume responsibility for the inter-profes-sional education activities hitherto carried out by the council, said Professor Field. The Canterbury Mental Health Council was established in 1960 to organise a national conference on mental health during World Mental Health Year. .
Since then the council has organised a number of interprofessional lectures and seminars conducted by distinguished visitors from overseas.
