Children’s Court Cases

A girl aged 16 was admitted to probation for two years when she appeared before Mr E. S. J. Crutchley, S.M., in the Children’s Court last month on theft charges. Probation for a similar period was ordered in the case of a 16-year-old boy, who admitted charges <rf obstructing a foot-, path and resisting the police in the execution of their duty. On charges of theft as a servant a 16-year-old boy was placed on probation for 18 months and ordered to pay £5 towards the cost of prosecution. Probation for one year was ordered when a 16-year-old boy was found guilty of burglary. He was also ordered to make restitution of £3. On two charges of unlawful sexual intercourse a boy of 16 was placed on probation for one year and fined £2O on each charge. On complaints that they were not under proper control a boy, of 14 and another aged 15 were committed to the care of the Superintendent of Child Welfare. In the latter case restitution of £3B 10s 3d was ordered. On a charge of burglary a boy of 11 was also committed to the superintendent’s care, as was a boy aged 15 on theft charges. Burglary Charges Four boys, aged 13 to 16. who appeared on burglary charges were placed under the supervision of a child welfare officer for two years, the oldest boy being ordered to make restitution of £43 4s. Five boys, aged 13 to 16, appeared on theft charges and they were also placed under supervision for two years. In one case a fine of £l5 was also imposed, and in another restitution of £4l 5s 7d was ordered. Supervision for a similar period was ordei’ed in the case of a 14-year-old boys who admitted charges of obtaining credit by fraud. A 13-j’ear-old boy, who admitted charges of burglary, was placed under supervision for 18 months and ordered to make restitution of £B.
