Versatile Kiwis
Six members of the New Zealand Rugby League team to tour Great Britain and France have shown marked
ability at other sports. F. R. Christian (Auckland), the fastest man in the team, is a former New Zealand junior 440 yards hurdles place-getter, while the Canterbury loose forward, J. L. White, was third in the national junior discus. White has represented Canterbury in the discus, shot put and long jump. Another prominent athlete is the 20-year-old West Coast centre, L. P. Brown, who has twice been the West Coast decathlon champion. J. K. Dixon (West Coast) is a former place-getter in the South Island swimming championships and has also represented his province at hockey | and surf life-saving. I The Wellington centre, R. IM. Strong, has represented ; North Island at softball, and IR. 1. Orchard (Bay of I Plenty), the 19-year-old, 15st 41b, second row forward, is | an amateur wrestler. Two of the players have api peared in first-class Rugby : Union. H. K. Emery (Auck- | land) played 137 first-class
Rugby matches, including 64 for Auckland and 36 for New Zealand Maoris. He also played for New Zealand Services.
The Auckland prop, E. Moore, is a former Counties representative—as a centre or full-back—and is also a former national junior pairoar rowing champion.
