PARKING METERS
£56,228 For Year
Again last year the cash takings of the city’s parking meters exceeded the estimate —£56,228 against £55,000. Last evening the City Council estimated £57,000 from them in the current financial year. Receipts from the council’s car parks last year, with this year’s estimates in parenthesis, were:—Tuam street, £16,881 (£19,198); Latimer square, £1072 (£1100); Lichfield street, £2497 (£1400). Special works charged against the account are estimated to cost £86,025, compared with last year’s expenditure of £34,828. They include £22,150 for the balance of the purchase price of the Lichfield street land, £14,375 for servicing the loans on the two parking buildings being erected and £38,000 for traffic control lights on locations to be decided.
